Yes, Birth CONTROL, not talking about the pill or some form of contraceptive. I believe that all forms of contraception, (besides barrier, tubals or vasectomies) are abortifacient. Read the literature. (pamphlets from the pills, rings, IUD's, and shots, or the PDR, online etc) But that's not exactly what I'm wanting to talk about. I'm talking about the "control" issue. It's so sad that people regard children as a burden or a curse, when God says they're the exact opposite.
"Psalm 127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Read that? The fruit of the womb is HIS REWARD! I don't know about you, but I want the Lord to reward me! People talk about the Lord blessing them in so many ways...financially, physically, materially, etc...But somehow when it comes to Him blessing them with children, it's no longer a blessing. They will say "I am trusting the Lord in this area..." (ie Letting Him control that area), but not, it seems, in the area of children. Why?
Why is it so easy to trust the Lord for finances, or healing, or health, or possesions, but not for children? I don't think I've ever heard any "excuse" for not having children that isn't a lack of trust or a selfishness issue. "We can't afford anymore", "I don't like pregnancy because...", "I want to go to school, have a career, etc, first", "I don't want to give up...", "I'm too tired with the ones I have", and on and on it goes.
I think Matt 6:25-32 says pretty clearly that your needs will be provided for.
"1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the LORD and His strength, seek His face continually."
"2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said unto me "My grace is sufficient for thee: For my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ will rest upon me."
"Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly of heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
"Phillipians 4:13 I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
"2 Thessalonians 3:13 But ye brethren, be not weary in well doing."
"Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we will reap if we faint not."
"Isaiah 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young."
I think that should about cover tiredness or physical ailments, and there are PLENTY of other scriptures that show that the Lord will help you through ANYTHING. Including childbearing and raising children! Besides which, in the same scripture where He says children are a reward, He talks about sleep. Kind of ironic don't you think?! I personally take it as a promise from the Lord!
"Psalms 127:2-5 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."
"In the scriptures, the concern of godly women was not discrimination in vocation but rather, the barrenness of the womb. Women were not pining away, pleading the Almighty to be priests or phrophets. They were praying for the blessing of bearing children." ~ Dorothy Patterson
How true! "1 Timothy 2:15 Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety." I will be SAVED in childbearing, NOT cursed!
"Genesis 24:60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them."
"Deuteronomy 7:9,13 Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; 13 And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee."
"Psalms 128:3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table."
It was a blessing to be the mother of many! What a blessing to receive on your wedding day! "I hope you have many children!"
The word Fruitful is used in reference to children 20+ times!
"Don't you see that children are God's best gift?
the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?
Like a warrior's fistful of arrows
are the children of a vigorous youth.
Oh, how blessed are you parents,
with your quivers full of children!
Your enemies don't stand a chance against you;
you'll sweep them right off your doorstep."
For sure, God meant children to be a blessing! Somehow we've strayed from that.
How can we as christians, say NO, to God when He tries to bless us? Would you say no if that blessing/reward were money? If the Lord offered you a million dollars would you refuse it? And yet what is money? It will be consumed. It does not last. I'm all for soulwinning, but how is it that soulwinning is more important or better than, bearing children? Every soul that you bring into this world for Christ will live on in eternity. Whether by birth or by soulwinning! We are in a spiritual warfare. We NEED more soldiers! Our numbers are dwindling because of our lack of faith and trust in the Lord controlling our family size. The Lord opens and shuts the womb. Allowing Him to control your family size doesn't mean you will have a child a year. I know many people who have never done a thing to control their family size and ended up with 1 or 2 kids, some even none!
Then there is the timing issue. "I'm not ready yet", "this or that needs to happen first". Don't you think you can trust God to know when the timing is right?
Basically what it boils down to is...If you have faith and trust the Lord, you need to trust Him in EVERY area of your life! If you use any form of birth CONTROL you are not trusting Him, you are trusting yourself, hence the word CONTROL!

I came across a great quote just yesterday "He who sends mouths will surely send the bread" it is toward the end of 'Be fruitful and multiply' by Nancy Campbell. This book was such a blessing to me as it educated me in what the Bible says about children. Great post!
God bless!
You know I think this also goes the other way around when I see so many women trying to conceive who have obviously been told by the Lord that their bodies should not have chidlren, or that their husbands should not have children. I think that this is also a way of trying to *control* instead of living out God's plan for how many children they should have. I know a lot of women who are WONDERFUL women, but they are playing gods with all of these hormones and surgeries and it is just really really sad to see the heartache that they put themselves through, when maybe they should just stop to listen to the Lord speak to them!
I know that is hard for some women to hear coming from me, who has been blessed with a small quiver full, however it is the truth!
The fruit of the womb is always a blessing. A lack of fruit of the womb just means that the Lord has something else in store! :) Great post! You already know how I feel about this one! :D--S
Faithful Mama~ You are SO right! I should have addressed that more in my post. It just has been on my mind how sad it is that people want to control the size by NOT having children. But I do agree. I personally do not think it's right to use hormones, surgeries, or IVF to get pregnant. I do think that if you have a hormone imbalance (whether it's causing infertility or not) you should try to fix it, as a hormone imbalance can cause a plethora of health problems. If in doing so you are able to conceive naturally, that's great!
Either direction is wrong. Trying to "control" getting pregnant or not getting pregnant, is taking matters into your own hands. God is in control and letting Him control your family size is the issue. If he thinks you should have a small family, so be it. If he thinks you should have a large family, so be it. Let Him have control!
Yes you two are both right on!! I agree...I think things like fertility drugs are just yet another way of controlling. And I'm finding in my own life, it is easy to start wanting to control on the other end. I was really hoping to be pregnant again by now, so my littlest one would have a sibling super close in age, but it's not happening. So obviously that is not God's will. I have to let it go and trust that another one will come along if/when the Lord wills it!
:D Me too! I may have a large family, but my desire is for more! Since being married this is the longest I have gone without getting pregnant. I do so want another little boy for Zachary to play with. I don't want him to be the only boy after 5 girls ya know! :D It's been very frustrating for me. Esp with twice knowing that I was/should have been and then wasn't. It's not easy to allow the Lord to control! It's nice knowing that each and every child is in God's plan though and will come if and when He knows it is best for that child to be.
How old is your youngest, and are you still nursing? I'm wondering if that is what's keeping me infertile...but then there I go again, it's up to the Lord!
:D My youngest is 15 months! And yes I'm still nursing. But that hasn't ever made a difference before. Here's the gaps between and with the exception of 1 I was still nursing with all of them. 19.5 mos, 15.5 mos, 20.5 mos, 16.5 mos, 21.5 mos, (I thought I had a pattern going here☺), 18 mos, 18 mos. And I nursed 18 mos, 10 mos, 17 mos, 9 mos, 13 mos, 10 mos, 7 mos(this is the only one I wasn't preg when I weaned) and now I'm on 15 mos and still going. If you figure it out, I nursed through a lot of pregnancies actually. The furthest in was my first, I weaned him a month before number 2 was born. So for me nursing doesn't affect my fertility. In fact, around 4 weeks after I stop my post-partum bleeding I start my cycles up again. But I just keep holding to Psalms 37:4 Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. :D
I couldn't agree with you more! I was just recently talking with my sweet sister about how we aren't expecting yet! ;-) I know that He is in control, and if I have anymore will be in His time table! Sure would be fun to be pregnant at the same time as my sister, even more so if she would move closer to me! I miss her like crazy sometimes, and let my emotions get the better of me thinking about it! :-( Like right now...BooHoo! Great post!!!!
Amen, amen, amen~!! Great post. I loved it because it speaks my mind. :o)
There have been times that I have desired to have a child, but God delayed it. But He is faithful and has blessed us wonderfully. :o)
I don't agree with not taking hormones should you need them. I get pregnant very easily. We have 8 children living and we have lost 4 between 6 and 12 weeks after the first two were born very heathly. I have a lack of progesterone. I know this to be a fact. If I continue to become pregnant and not take progestrone I feel as though I would be helping those babies die - by taking it they live. Otherwise, should I say "oh I have a progestrone problem, I don't believe in taking hormones so I will just get my tubes tide rather than have more losses." Just my two cents on hormones. Perhaps some of you were talking about different hormones?
@Anonymous~I was NOT talking about taking hormones should you NEED them. I was talking about taking things (like Clomid for example) to get you pregnant. I have used natural and synthetic hormones to maintain a pregnancy and I think not doing so is tantamount to murder. I would not ignore a child who, say, had diabetes and needed insulin to live anymore than I would not take proper care of myself (including taking "hormones") to keep my baby alive. Getting pregnant naturally without outside intervention is what I was talking about. Controlling your family size by either stopping pregnancy or manipulating your body to get pregnancy is wrong. It is taking saying you're in control, not God. That is the issue. Controlling your family size. Not maintaining a pregnancy. I prefer using natural means first, but I'm not above using modern medicine, if it will save a life especially!
Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. Sometimes I wish my body didn't need anything at all. Blessings.
Yeah, I was talking about fertility drugs, not hormones. God bless!
